Overview & Reviews
For 2003, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has received refinements that improve its ride and handling. The suspension features reduced pressure shocks and the brake master cylinder output has been increased to improve brake pedal feel. There are also new brake calipers and a revised steering gear torsion bar. Available trims have been narrowed from five to three; the Sport and Special Edition trims have been discontinued. Standard on 2003 Laredo models is a new high-back cloth seat. Finally, in all Jeep Grand Cherokee interiors, a new cubby bin for holding sunglasses or cellular phones has been added to the instrument panel, replacing the ashtray.
- Powerful 4.7-liter V8, all-terrain capability, roomy comfort for four.
- Noisy and unrefined, questionable reliability.

Great Vehicle - 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By Mike97 - May 10 - 2:00 amHave had the JGCL with HO V-8 for about five months. Zero defects in build quality--no faults so far, which is surprising. Very comfortable with no "climbing or crawling" required for entry/exit, important to someone with orthopedic problems. Front seats adjust to almost any desired position, and the heated seats are great--tho the high setting is definitely high. Great vehicle, with decent gas mileage using regular gas on the road at legal speeds, tho not so great in town. A "Keeper."

Would drive it off a cliff - 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By SAJ - April 19 - 12:23 pmI bought what I thought was going to be a good looking reliable vehicle. I had a Chevy Caprice for over 13 years and was looking to find something I would love as much. I looks HOT! But looks are deceiving. It is 03 and still looks brand new even without a good car wash. BUT... The piece of junk has spent more time in the shop than any vehicle in earth history except maybe another Jeep Grand Cherokee. Seat Heater, Brake rotors, 5 complete sets of brakes and rotors. Shimmies really bad after about 6 months of new brakes. The heater sensor something , air conditioning lvr things, cruise control, battery goes dead, electrical shorts but nobody can tell me why. Would not sell to my worst enemy.

Second Time Around - 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By georgec13 - March 28 - 2:00 amHad a good 1996 Grand Cherokee i.e. 104,000 miles and second set of tires, just got first brakes, no repairs except cat. conv, why not a new one. Got a 2003. More space in rear compartment. Poorer driver vision on 2003. Lost storage space in front part of cab i.e. console and glove are smaller, also small door compartments. Main problem is that although engine has same displacement as 1996 the 2003 feels underpowered. Never had that problem with 1996. "Any" grade at speed makes the engine strain. Nickel and dime loses from 1996 i.e. no eng comp. light, poor cup holder position etc. In eng comp I found screws just lying around. Wonder where they belong?

Nothing Better Than A CHEROKEE!!! - 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By amkmo3 - February 20 - 10:00 amMy First was a 1994 SE model, just the base model I honestly drove it until it fell apart, "Lil RED MULE" had a tough life!!! I had to junk it and cried like a baby to see her go!!! but with 450,725 miles and only one repair job for $159.52 you cant beat that with a stick. I am having the same great luck with my new jeep, I will not buy any thing else! The average mileage my family gets at trade-in on their Cherokees is 280,000 miles. And just to let you know These vehicles are built for safety, ask my in-laws who hit a 1700 pound cow one night and walked away with out a scratch even though the vehicle was totalled!

A solid vehicle - 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By New Jeep fan - January 21 - 2:00 amI have owned my GC for almost one year, and it is as solid as the day I drove it off the lot. It has proven to be reliable in all weather conditions, and the V8 power is ample. The cold weather package has proven to be my favorite amenity. It is a good size vehicle for city driving and parking, unlike many of the behemoths out there.

Out of warranty & out of money - 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By passt2009 - October 23 - 10:43 pmThis is my second Jeep and it will be my last, nothing but problems (costly repairs). Brakes, rotors, air conditioning, water pump, exhaust, throttle position sensors, coolant leaks, broken seats & terrible stability problems. The Jeep was great for the first four months or so, then it just went downhill fast, it seems to have lost its stability and handling and has required too many repairs. My first Jeep was a 1994 Cherokee Sport, which had very little problems (over 125k) and no stability issues. Maybe I just got a lemon but I wont be taking a chance and buying another one to find out.

Very Sad - 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By GWE - October 23 - 3:53 amOur Jeep started bucking and becoming undriveable at 5000 miles. This is intermittent and has caused several delays on family trips. The manufacturer just says, "bad gas". They did extend our warranty to 70,000 miles, free. Big deal, the car is not reliable. They have yet to find the problem. We are going on three years of this. Tomorrow we go to "Lemon Law" court with the manufacturer. Wish us luck.

Get the extended warranty - 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By OverlandMan - October 13 - 1:13 pmI bought my 03 Overland new in December 02. I really loved the styling as well as long list of standard features. My problems started at around 10k miles with a broken hvac fan motor. The dealer replaced the resistor pack. Almost exactly 1 year later to the date, the fan died again. The dealer replaced the resistor pack again to fix it. 1 year later the heat stopped working for the passenger side; this time it was the blend door, a very expensive repair had the Jeep not been under the original warranty. So to sum it up the dash got ripped out 3 times in under 3 years, which would have cost over $2k had it not been under warranty. For these problems alone I cant recommend a Grand.

There really is only one. - 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee
By kevin_r1 - October 7 - 2:00 amIf there is a better SUV out there for the money, Id like to hear about it. Ive driven a lot of SUVs (ML, X5, Explorer, 4Runner) and none are better then the Grand Cherokee. Jeep could easily charge $10,000 more for this vehicle and it would still be worth it. Ive never had any mechanical problems and I drive harder than almost anyone I know. Three years later the paint looks as good as the day I bought it. Mind you, the vehicle has never been garaged.
